Defending Champions, Albirex Niigata, got off to a bad start to the league campaign this evening when they lost 3-1 to BG Tampines at Jalan Besar Stadium.
Against the run of play, ex Japan National midfielder, Yojiro Takahagi, led a counter attack and fed the ball to target man Shuhei "Jumbo" Hoshino. Jumbo threaded the ball to winger Daniel Goh who timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap. Daniel then chipped the Tampines goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari to give the White Swans the lead at the 38th minute.
Daniel could have doubled the lead 2 minutes later as he barely missed Captain Ho Wai Loon's whipping cross from the left wing.
The White Swans led 1 nil going into the break.
Both teams continued to have chances in the 2nd half.
【#8 Yojiro Takahagi】
Jumbo and Daniel could have extended the White Swan's lead when they were put into good position. However, both players fluffed their shots.
It was ex-White Swan, Seia Kunori, who led Tampines' comeback. He swept in a low powerful shot to Hassan Sunny's right corner from the edge of the box in the 63rd minute to equalise, and then curled a beautiful shot into the left corner 10 minutes later.
Tampines striker Boris Kopitovic made the points safe in the 87th minute when Hassan could only parry Faris Ramli's shot into his path.
The White Swans will next host Hougang Utd at Jurong East Stadium next Saturday 18 May. Kick off is 6pm.
