In its first match as a fully localised team, defending league champions, Albirex, conceded the Community Shield to Lion City Sailors in a 2 nil defeat tonight at Jalan Besar Stadium.
In a tentative first half, it was Sailor's striker, Shawal Anuar who broke the deadlock at the 43rd minute. He received an exquisite pass from 2023 Player of the Year, Maxime Lestienne, and rifled the ball pass Hassan Sunny.
The White Swans came out attacking more in the 2nd half and had a few good chances early on.
However, substitute Amy Recha was unfortunate to have adjudged to foul Lestienne in the penalty box and the referee awarded a penalty kick.
Lestienne stepped up to convert the penalty.
White Swan's left back, Gareth Low, could have pulled a goal back in the 90th minute when Sailors goalkeeper Zharfan Rohaizad parried Yohei Otake's free kick into his path. However, Gareth skied his shot with his weaker right foot.

The White Swans will kick off the league season proper next week, 12 May, Sunday at the same venue, Jalan Besar against Tampines Rovers. Kick off is 6pm.
