Happy New Year to all.
As we step into a new year, we reflect on the past with gratitude. Your unwavering support and encouragement were pivotal in Albirex Niigata FC Singapore's journey last year. From the depths of our hearts, we extend our sincerest thanks.
2023 marked a milestone 20th anniversary for our club. It was a year embellished with triumphs, including winning the Community Shield and the Singapore Premier League for the second consecutive year. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the steadfast support of our partners, fans, local communities, and the entire Albirex family. We express our profound gratitude to each one of you.
Our players have shone brightly; Seia Kunori led with 21 goals, earning the accolades of Young Player of the Year and a spot in the Team of the Year. The young captain Asahi Yokokawa, alongside defender Koki Kawachi, also made it to the Team of the Year. Head coach Kazuaki Yoshinaga, the architect of our back-to-back championships, was deservedly named Coach of the Year once again.
We bid a respectful farewell to Tadanari Lee, who, after 500 official matches and two years with our team, chose to conclude his illustrious career with Albirex Niigata Singapore. His legacy and experience are invaluable gifts to the club and our young talents. We also salute goalkeeper Hyrulnizam Juma'at, retiring after five years of exemplary service and becoming a role model for young local players.
Our women's team, now in its second year, has shown remarkable progress, finishing second in the championship. Kana Kitahara, a former Japanese national team member, have inspired many with their skill and passion, winning the league's top scorer and Player of the Year.
Emphasizing youth development, we've partnered with Soccer Services Barcelona to establish a first-of-its-kind methods department in Singapore. Under Coach Marçal's guidance, our academy teams have shown impressive growth.
In collaboration with our partner club, KMSK Deinze of Belgium, our Rising Star Singapore project will send three academy players to Belgium for advanced football training, strengthening our international ties and fostering a global perspective among Singapore's youth.
Furthering our community commitment, we signed MOUs with Tanglin Trust School and Soaring Dreams Football Academy. Our aim is to enrich local lives through football, fostering a healthy, prosperous future for our community and its children.
The Albirex (S) S.E.A Cup 2023, our youth competition featuring teams from Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Brunei, and the Philippines, was a resounding success. This event played a significant role in promoting the development of football across South East Asia. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners, organizations, and the participating teams from these nations for their collaboration in this impactful international endeavor.
We take pride in watching the children at our football and cheerleading schools grow. Their enthusiasm and cheers at the Jurong East Stadium are a great motivation for our players. Thank you so much as always.
Our Yuhua Albirex Football Academy (YAFA) celebrates a decade of nurturing Yuhua's children through football, promoting physical activity and social skills. This has been possible due to the Yuhua community and our dedicated volunteers.
With the upcoming season, Albirex Niigata FC Singapore is set to transform into a local team. Our performance in the league opens doors to prestigious Asian competitions like the Asia Champions League. We're poised to elevate Albirex Niigata Singapore's presence across Asia and the world, with the support of our partners, fans, communities, and the Albirex family.
Your continued support is our greatest strength. Here's to another exhilarating year ahead.
