The Albirex train pushed on to extend its lead at the top of the table to 5 points tonight with a 2 nil win over DPMM Brunei FC.
In an undramatic first half, the drama came in the 40th minute when the floodlights went off while the White Swans were preparing to take a corner kick. The White Swans have been pushing hard to find the opener in the first half but found the DPMM defence resolute.
The floodlights soon came on again after after about a 5 minute stoppage. However, both teams could not find a breakthrough and finished the half scoreless.
After the break, DPMM Striker Andrej Varankou nearly gave the visitors lead in the 46th minute as he suddenly found space inside the penalty box. However, his shot hit the underside of the crossbar and the Albirex defenders scrambled to clear the ball away.
The scare woke the hosts up as they started to dominate the game again. In the 54th minute, the goal finally came as substitute winger Riku Fukashiro hit a sweet curler at the edge of the box to beat the DPMM goalkeeper.
The White Swans were not satisfied with a single goal lead and continued to pile shots at the DPMM defence. From a free kick, centre back Kishimoto's header hit the crossbar in the 65th minute while 2 minutes later, attacking midfielder Seia Kunori drew a super save from the DPMM keeper.
The second goal came in the 80th minute when midfielders Shodai Yokoyama and Shuto Komaki conjured up an open goal for substitute striker Keito Komatsu to tap in.
After the goal, the White Swans were contented to slow down the tempo to close out the game. DPMM worked hard in vain to get at least a goal back as Albirex defended stoutly.
The win marks the White Swan's 4th win in 4 games in April. The team will take a 3 weeks break and will travel to Jalan Besar Stadium on 6 May (Sat) to meet Hougang Utd.
