【Match Report】White Swans Cruise to 5 Nil Victory
The White Swans made light work of the Young Lions this evening at the Jalan Besar Stadium when they cruised to a 5 nil victory.
Hotshot Ilhan Fandi opened the scoring at the 24th minute when he reacted quickest to a Masaya Idetsu's free kick which hit the upright and headed the ball into an empty net.
5 minutes later, Kodai Tanaka did good work on the right flank and made a delicious cross to winger Masahiro Sugita who was lurking at the far post. Sugita watched the flight of the cross all the way and swung the volley into the net.
Albirex led 2 nil into half time.
Albirex continued its dominance in the 2nd half without moving into second gear.
In the 64th minute, substitute Mahiro Takahashi made a through pass to Tanaka who broke the offside trap. Tanaka made no mistake when he was one-on-on with the Young Lions keeper and extended the lead to 3 nil.
9 minutes later, Tanaka grabbed his second when Sugita jiggled at the left wing and fed Tanaka for his second of the night and fourth for Albirex.
At the 85th minute, Sugita's shot was bundled into the net by Young Lions' centre back Syahrul Sazali to complete the misery for the home team.
The victory cut Lion City Sailor's lead at the top of the table although they will play Tampines Rovers tomorrow. The White Swans will host the leader next Friday, 29 July at Jurong East Stadium which will be an early anticipated top of the table clash. Kickoff is 7:45pm.
