【Match Report】SPL 4th Leg "White Swans Marks Return With Four-Goal Romp"
4 seems to be a number associated with the White Swans this season. The opening game at Jurong East Stadium saw the White Swans put 4 past Geylang International, followed by 2 "2-2" draws with Balestier and Tanjong Pagar. All 3 games yielded 4 goals.
After a 7-month break due to COVID-19, the White Swans returned to action with a bang by scoring 4 goals (again!) against the Young Lions, for the 4th match of the season.
Regular Centreback Rio Sakuma started from the bench as he was recovering from his injury. Singaporean midfielder, Iman Hakim, who started the last 3 matches, missed the match altogether due to a knee injury. New signing from Warriors Football Club, Fairoz Hasan, made his debut upfront as a 3 man attack with Reo Nishiguchi and Doi Tomoyuki.
The White Swans went into attack mode from the kickoff and quickly took a 2 goal lead within 12 minutes. At the 7th minute, Fairoz Hasan made a delicious cross from the right wing into the box and midfielder Ryoya Taniguchi sent in a powerful header into the left corner of the net.
5 minutes later, Captain Hashioka broke down the right wing again and Reo Nishiguchi met Hashioka's cross with a swinging volley into the top right corner.
The first half ended 2 nil to the White Swans with no other notable actions despite dominating possession.
The White Swans continued to press the Young Lions in the 2nd half. Attacking midfielder, Ryosuke Nagasawa, unleashed an unstoppable shot into the bottom right corner in the 65th minute to give the White Swans the third goal.
8 minutes later, good combination play between substitute Mitsuzuka and Taniguchi released striker Doi, who took a powerful shot past the Young Lions custodian to make it 4 for the White Swans.
Head Coach Shigetomi made a number of substitutions late on to save legs, including a debut for 17 year-old Ong Yu En.
The White Swans moves up to 2nd place on the league table after this victory, one point behind Tampines Rovers.
The next match will be on 24 October 2020 (Saturday) between the White Swans and Lion City Sailors at Jurong East Stadium. Kickoff is at 5.30pm. As spectators are not allowed to return to the Stadiums yet, please look out for live streaming information on the various social media.
