2019 SPL 5th Leg vs Warriors FC "Second Win on the Trot"
Building on last week's dramatic victory over Balestier Khalsa, the White Swans overcame a fightback by the Warriors to win at Jurong East Stadium 2-1.
This was the White Swan's first away game at Jurong East Stadium, as this stadium is shared between Warriors FC and Albirex from 2019.
The White Swans started the match cautiously as they were aware of the threat posed by Warriors striker, Jonathan Behe, who has scored many goals against the White Swans in past seasons. Eventually the White Swans got a foothold of the game and took the lead through right winger, Daizo Horikoshi in the 25th minute.
Warriors were awarded a free kick just outside the box in the 38th minute. Slack marking allowed Behe to nod in the ball unmarked to level the score.
Harsh words were probably conveyed to the team by Head Coach Shigetomi at half time and the White Swans came out firing in the second half. 5 minutes after the restart, Kaishu Yamazaki made a lovely through ball to left winger Hiroyoshi Kamata who fired past the Warriors custodian to regain the lead for the White Swans.
The lead could have been extended to 3-1 as captain Kyoga Nakamura fluffed a penalty which could have killed off the game. This led to a nervy end for the White Swans as Warriors piled forward in search of an equaliser again. However, the defence stood firm this time and managed to see out the game for the second consecutive 2-1 victory at Jurong East Stadium.
The win propelled the White Swans to the top half of the table at 4th place.
Next up are the Young Lions who would visit Jurong East Stadium on 21st April.
