RHB Singapore Cup Semi Finals 2nd Leg vs Home United FC "Finals!"
The White Swans marched into the RHB Singapore Cup Finals for the 4th consecutive season with a 1-nil victory (aggregate 4-2) over Home United in a pulsating 2nd leg semi finals match.
Albirex led 3-2 in the first leg at Jurong East Stadium one week ago. The Protectors came out firing on all cylinders for the first 30 minutes with many shots peppered at the White Swans. However, the defence, led by veteran GK, Yosuke Nozawa held firm. It was Albirex who had the better chance in the first half when striker Shun Kumagai met left back Kenya Takahashi's far field cross with his right foot, only to be turned away into a corner by a superb save from the Protectors custodian, Kenji.
The White Swans started to dominate the match in the 2nd half. Both Adam Swandi and Shun Kumagai fought hard for possession of the ball and earned a freekick in the middle of the park at the 60th minute. Despite the distance, freekick specialist Kenya put in a "bent it like Beckham' swerve to deceive Protector's keeper Kenji who had done well until this moment. 0-1 Albirex led.
The Protectors poured men forward as they needed 2 goals to force at least extra time. Waves and waves of attack ensued but the Albirex defenders stood tall. On occasions when the Protectors passed the Albirex defenders, they met another brick wall in the form of Nozawa. Nozawa pulled off superlative saves after saves of shots, which looked like certain goals.
The White Swans closed out the match with no further goals. 0-1 victory and an aggregate of 4-2 to beat the Protectors in the semi finals.
The White Swans will meet DPMM Brunei in the finals this Saturday, 6 Oct at Jalan Besar Stadium.
