White Swans Record 14th Straight Win for 14 Points Lead
The White Swans nearly lost its 100% record to the season when the Cheetahs threatened a comeback from 2 nil down.
In a drab first half, right winger Hiroyoshi Kamata found space in the box from a left wing pass by Captain Murofushi. Kamata gleefully swept the ball into the net to give the White Swans a 1 nil lead in the first half.
However Captain Murofushi missed a penalty in the 2nd half as Hougang goalkeeper Khairulhinin made a superb save to keep the score at 1 nil.
Substitute Adam Swandi had 2 chances to kill off the game but fluffed his lines as he was still searching for sharpness after a month of layoff from injury.
Adam missed a third glorious chance of scoring when he played a lovely one-two with Taku Morinaga and found himself through on goal with only the goalkeeper to beat. Khairulhinin saved Adam's shot again but this time Adam was able to pass the rebound to an onrushing Jumbo to extend the lead.
Hougang managed to pull a goal back in the 89th minute when Amir Zailani's shot deflected off an Albirex defender with GK Nozawa diving the opposite direction.
In the dying minutes, Hougang threw men forward. Centreback Adam Mitter found himself unmarked but he could only direct his header to a grateful Nozawa.
1-2 at full time to Albirex and the White Swans gets to stretch their 100% record to 14 matches. With nearest challenger Tampines Rovers losing 2 nil to DPMM Brunei tonight, Albirex also stretches it lead at the top of the table to 14 points.
