S.League 24th leg. Seventh Heaven for White Swans
The White Swans celebrated its S.League title in style by putting 7 goals past Geylang International in this last S.League game for the season.
Albirex also won the title with games to spare last season but proceeded to lose the last game 5-1 to Tampines Rovers. It seems that lessons have been learnt from last season's debacle and there was no complacency or pulling of punches from the Albirex players this time.
Player of the Year Nominee, Kento Nagasaki, started the ball rolling as early as the 14th minute with a curler past Syazwan Buhari. The game was all over at the 44th minute when top scorer Tsubasa Sano scored the 4th goal and his second goal of this match. Sano was chasing Home Utd's Stipe Plazibat for the golden boot and needed to score a hattrick in this match to overtake Stipe.
And score he did - Sano got his hattrick in the 60th minute with a fine header for the 5th goal of the match. 7 minutes later, Kento underlined his footballing qualities and brains with possibly a late contender for Goal of the Season by scoring a looping shot into the net.
Seven seemed to be the theme of the night, as another 7 minutes later at the 74th minute, Young Player of the Year nominee, Yasutaka Yanagi, scored the 7th goal of the night to put Albirex supporters in seventh heaven.
Geylang scored a late 2nd consolation goal at the 79th minute through Albirex alumni, Yuki Ichikawa from a free kick set piece.
But the game was long gone before that. Albirex and its supporters celebrated the end of the game by holding the S.League trophy aloft for the 2nd time in history and 2nd year in a row.
