S.League 22nd Leg. White Swans Within Touching Distance of S.League Title
The White Swans made short work of a bumpy Toa Payoh Stadium pitch to beat Balestier Khalsa 3 nil comfortably.
Tsubasa Sano broke his goalscoring duck of more than 2 months by opening the scoring at the 13th minute when he received a through pass from Ryota Nakai. Sano has not scored since the Geylang game on 5 Aug, due to an ankle injury, suspension and loss of form.
The game was littered with misplaced passes due to the bad condition of the field. After Sano's goal, there was no noteworthy action until Kamata broke through from the left wing and unleashed a fierce shot at the edge of the penalty box which Zaiful Nizam, the Balestier custodian, could only parry into his own net.
The White Swans went into half time with a 2 nil lead.
The second half continued to be a dread to fans. It was not until the 89th minute when Ryota Nakai put the game finally to bed from a rebound off the crossbar.
With this 3 nil victory, Albirex has attained 56 points which only 2nd placed Tampines Rovers could match. However, the White Swans has a superior 45 goal difference compared to the Stag's GD of 20. Thus, it would take a monumental effort from Tampines to score 25 goals or more in the last 3 games or for Albirex to lose the same amount.
Head Coach Yoshinaga was unhappy with his players' performance tonight, and vowed not to let up in the remaining matches against Warriors and Geylang in the post match conference.
The players will need to impress him in these 2 games for a place in the RHB Singapore Cup Final against Global Cebu FC, rather than the dross they put out tonight against Balestier.
