【Match Report】SPL 11th Leg "First Goals Help Swans Overcome Young Lion"
17 year old Singaporean Ong Yu En and Captain Kazuki Hashioka scored their first goals for the White Swans in a rainy evening at Jurong East Stadium.
Heavy rain and lightning risk delayed the kickoff by an hour to 8.45pm. However, the delay could not stop Yu En, making his first start for the White Swans, to score his first goal after a neat one-two with striker Tomoyuki Doi after just 4 minutes.
The White Swans dominated proceedings but were wasteful in front of goal with the chief culprit being Doi. He hit the cross bar with a thunderous striker in the 23rd minute and headed straight into the Young Lions Keeper's arms after a good cross by Hashioka in the 33rd minute.
Young Lions nearly equalised in the 42nd minute when 16 year old striker Khairin Nadim hit the upright with a left footed drive.
The first half ended 1-nil to the White Swans.
The White Swans continued to carve out chances in the 2nd half. Captain Hashioka took charge in the 67th minute when he dribbled past the Young Lion's defence and calmly slot the ball into the net.
As the remaining games are coming thick and fast, the White Swans retreated into a game management mode to conserve energy and safely saw out the game at 2 nil.
The next game would be crucial for the White Swan's title hopes as they meet 2nd place Tampines Rovers this Sunday, 29 Nov at Jurong East Stadium. Kickoff is at 5.30pm.
