【Match Report】SPL 4th Leg "All Square at Jurong East Stadium"
For the second time in a row, the White Swans have to come back behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw with fellow Jurong East Stadium user, Tanjong Pagar Utd FC.
The White Swans did the early running after kickoff, but a defensive lapse allowed the Jaguars' Japanese import, Nishikawa, to nip in a goal to take the lead.
After the early set back, the White Swans regained control of the game but were unable to find an equaliser before half time. However, they were given a helping hand by the Assistant Referee when he flagged an alleged elbow by Jaguars' captain Delwinder Singh in the 44th minute. The referee, Ahmad A'Qashah, gave Delwinder a straight red card.
Super sub, Ryoya Taniguchi, replaced the ineffective Iman Hakim at half time and the White Swans piled on the attack. They finally found a breakthrough in the 58th minute when captain Kazuki Hashioka penetrated the right flank and sent a delicious ball across the face of goal for left winger Reo Nishiguchi to tap in.
However, Tanjong Pagar earned a free kick at the edge of the box in the 80th minute. Centreback Yann Motta, curled in the beautiful free kick and the White Swans custodian Kei Okawa barely moved.
As in the previous game against Balestier, the White Swan's never die spirit came to the fore again and this time striker Tomoyuki Doi finally made his header count in the 83rd minute after missing a host of chances.
The White Swans will be ruing 2 points lost as they have peppered the Jaguars with many shots while the Jaguars probably scored 2 goals from their only 2 shots on target.
It is still early season and the White Swans will have another shot at 3 points when they host Lion City Sailors at Jurong East Stadium on 4th April, Saturday.
