2019 SPL 24th Leg vs Home United FC "Solitary Goal Settles Dead Rubber Match"
In what was a dead rubber match between Albirex and Home United, the White Swans eked out a 1 nil victory in the last league game of the season at Jurong East Stadium.
The White Swans have been confirmed at 4th placing while Brunei DPMM FC has won the league. The results tonight would have no bearing on the White Swan's position.
Singaporean goalkeeper, HyrulNizam Juma'at, affectionately known as Ahlau, made his debut for the team.
The White Swans took the lead in the 16th minute when a through ball found No. 9 Hiroyoshi Kamata one on one with Home Utd keeper. Kamata calmly slotted the ball into the net.
The White Swans were then contented to sit back to protect the lead. The backline were marshalled superbly by centrebacks Kaishu Yamazaki and Shuhei Sasahara.
Debutant Ahlau also made several smart saves including 2 corners and saving on the feet of Home Utd substitute Oliver Pufflet when he penetrated our defence line.
The final score ended 1 nil to the White Swans.
The Singapore Cup tournament is the last trophy which the White Swans can win this year. However, the team would need to beat Geylang International on 19 Oct and Brunei DPMM on 23 Oct to progress to the semi finals.
