2019 SPL 20th Leg vs Balestier Khalsa "White Swans Leaves Tigers in a Haze"
The White Swans beat the Balestier Khalsa Tigers 2 nil in a hazy night at Jurong East Stadium. Although the conditions were hazy with PSI crossing the 100 mark, the match received the go-ahead as the league protocol for postponing the match is at 200 PSI.
At the 19th minute, right winger Daizo Horikoshi was upended in the box by the Balestier keeper and referee pointed to the spot immediately. No. 9 Hiroyoshi Kamata converted the spot kick with minimum fuss.
There were good scoring chances for Albirex forwards, Zamani Zamri and Daniel Martens but they were unable to add to the scoreline.
The first half ended 1 nil.
The White Swans continued to dominate the game in the second half but did not create many clear cut chances.
At the dying seconds, Captain Kyoga Nakamura collected no. 13 Makito Hatanaka's throw-in and drilled a fierce low shot into the bottom right corner of Balestier's goal. The goal was the last decisive action for the game as the referee signalled the end of the game about 30 seconds later.
The 2 nil win meant that the White Swans cannot finished lower than 4th place as nearest challenger Home Utd lost 3 nil tonight to Young Lions.
The White Swans will next play Home Utd on 29 Sep (Sunday) at Jurong East Stadium for the last league game of the season.
Before that, the White Swans will begin the defence of their Singapore Cup on 25 Sep (Wed) against Hougang Utd at Jurong East Stadium.
