2019 SPL 8th Leg vs Home United FC "Captain Nakamura Inspires White Swans to 4-Goal Romp"
The White Swans bounced back from a 4-2 defeat by Hougang Utd in midweek to beat Community Shield Winner, Home Utd 4 nil at the Jurong East Stadium this evening.
Captain Kyoga Nakamura produced a man-of-the-match performance to power the White Swans past Home Utd. As early as the 1st minute, the White Swans went on the offensive and Nakamura was upended in the penalty box. Nakamura dusted himself and duly put away the penalty awarded to give the White Swans a 1 nil lead.
The game took on an unexpected twist in the 12th minute when an accidental collision caused the referee, Edwin Lee to fell awkwardly and dislocated his elbow. He had to be replaced by the 4th official, G Letchman for the rest of the game.
However, the change in referee had no effect on the White Swans express as right winger Daizo Horikoshi converted right back Shoki Ohara's cross to double the lead in the 26th minute.
Horikoshi found space again on the right wing at the 39th minute. He unleashed a powerful shot which Home Utd custodian, Nazri Sabri, could only parry onto the path of striker Daniel Martens. Martens gleefully accepted the gift to score his first professional goal.
In first half injury time, Nakamura added gloss to the scoreline when he angled a shot outside the penalty box and the ball ricocheted the upright into the net. 4 nil, the White Swans took an unassailable lead into half time.
The second half produced no goals as the White Swans were content to sit back to conserve energy as this was their 3rd game in 7 days.
The win concluded the first round of games for the White Swans with a record of 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses, 14 points at 3rd position.
The team is gelling nicely with 4 wins in 5 games, and is gearing up for the 2nd round of games starting from 5th May, Sunday at Jurong East Stadium. The White Swans will face Geylang International and the boys will be motivated to avenge the loss earlier in the season.
