RHB Singapore Cup Semifinals 1st leg vs Home United FC "White Swans Overcome Protectors for Slim Lead in First Leg"
The White Swans trailed twice in the first leg of the RHB Singapore Cup Semi Finals against Home Utd, but managed to come back both times and scored a third goal to take a slim one goal lead into the 2nd leg in one week's time.
As early as the 2nd minute, Hafiz Nor pounced on centre back Yamazaki Kaishu's mistake and scored the opening goal. Yamazaki was playing his first game after 3 months out with a knee injury. However, Adam Swandi found space in the box and swung his left foot to score the equaliser 10 minutes later.
However, another mistake at the 36th minute saw centre back Sasahara scored an own goal to hand the lead back to the Protectors.
White Swans trailed 1-2 at half time.
Albirex dominated the 2nd half in search of the 2nd equaliser. Moriyasu did some goodwork down the left wing and found Captain Murofushi. After a one-two with makeshift centre forward Shun Kumagai, deputising on behalf the suspended Jumbo, Murofushi curled an unstoppable shot into the top left hand corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
The White Swans pushed on in search of the winning goal. Finally at the 75th minute, Adam broke down the right wing and sent a teasing cross into left winger Yamanaka. Yamanaka's shot hit a defender's arm and the referee pointed to the spot immediately. The Protectors protested vehemently in vain. while Murofushi coolly slotted in the penalty.
The White Swans suffered an inexplicable red card in the 4th minute of injury time when Taku Morinaga was alleged to have fouled the Protector's defender. Taku is likely to missed both the 2nd leg and possible finals in 10 days time.
The 2nd leg of the semi finals will be held on 3 Oct at Bishan Stadium.
