SPL 2nd vs Balestier Khalsa Albirex Overcomes Difficult Conditions to Maintain Perfect Record
The White Swans recorded its second victory at Toa Payoh Stadium this evening to maintain its perfect record for the start of the Singapore Premier League.
It was not an easy victory as the White Swans have to overcome a few difficult moments to clinch victory. As early as the 9th minute, veteran GK, Yosuke Nozawa has to dive to his right to make a penalty save from Balestier's forward, Keegan Linderboom.
As the natural grass pitch of Toa Payoh Stadium is rather bumpy, the White Swans only got to grip with their passing game after about 20 minutes. However, the young Swans were profligate in front of goal, with Kamata, Hoshino, Morinaga and Swandi missing good chances.
The White Swans continued its dominance in the second half with crosses after crosses into the Balestier box. However, the Tigers packed their defence and held firm. The new Swans in the team are still getting use to the physical play from Balestier. In addition, a tolerant referee for the Tigers' aggression did not help the Swan's cause.
The relentless pressure from Albirex finally broke the Tiger's resistance as left back Takahashi Kenya whipped in a wicked cross and the Balestier defender Sheikh Abdul Hadi could only head into his own net. 0-1 to the Swans.
Balestier tried to get an equaliser after the goal and piled men forward to support the 2 burly forwards. GK Nozawa came to the rescue again with some good saves and brought composure to the Albirex defence.
Not a great performance but 3 points for the Swans. Job done.
